| Reverse description | A cruciform arrangement of four heraldic shields occupies the central field, with the arms of England, Scotland, Ireland, and France disposed in the four quarters. At the centre of the cross sits the shield of the Order of the Garter, bearing the Garter motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE encircling the arms. The date in Roman numerals ANNO DOM MDCCCXLVII and the motto TUEATUR UNITA DEUS appear in the surrounding legend, with the engraver's initials W W attributed to William Wyon present in the design, faithfully recreating the celebrated reverse of the 1847 Gothic Crown. |
