Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the George IV State Diadem, pearl drop earrings, and a pearl necklace, after the portrait by Raphael David Maklouf. The queen's draped bust is rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery and GIBRALTAR 2004 along the right, all within a fine beaded border. The engraver's initials RDM appear at the base of the portrait.

Aanvullende informatie

Gibraltar's commemorative program in the early 2000s produced a string of World War II themed issues aimed squarely at the collector market, and this is one of them. The Battle of Stalingrad — fought between August 1942 and February 1943 — resulted in roughly two million casualties across both sides and marked the definitive turning point on the Eastern Front. The applied colored poppy element connects the piece to British remembrance tradition, though Stalingrad was exclusively a Soviet-German engagement with no British forces present.
