Alderney, a Crown dependency not part of the UK but under the British Crown, has issued commemorative coinage since 1993 — largely as a revenue vehicle, with pieces carrying face values no one would spend. This 2019 Remembrance issue joins a long line of such productions, timed to the centenary aftermath of WWI commemorations that ran from 2014 through 2018 and tapered into 2019.
The .916 fineness is standard 22-carat crown gold, the same alloy used for sovereigns since the recoinage of 1817.
