The date 1663 is divided above the central intersection in homage to the original design, while the Garter motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE encircles the composition. The outer legend · MAG BRI · FR ET · HIB REX · runs around the periphery, completing the heraldic programme in the tradition of seventeenth-century English milled coinage. |
