Bank of Ireland issued this note under the Currency Act (Northern Ireland) 1927, which empowered certain Belfast-based banks to continue issuing their own sterling notes — a arrangement that persisted long after the Irish Free State had moved to its own currency in 1928. The two jurisdictions diverged sharply, but Bank of Ireland operated on both sides of the border, maintaining separate note-issuing functions for each.
The nearly three-decade print run from 1929 to 1958 means dates within the series vary considerably in scarcity. Earlier dated examples from the 1930s see far less survival than postwar issues.
