This note was issued against the backdrop of South Sudan's independence in July 2011, which stripped Khartoum of roughly three-quarters of the country's oil revenue almost overnight. The Central Bank of Sudan responded with a series of new issues designed to signal institutional continuity even as the economy contracted sharply — inflation reached triple digits within two years of the split.
Printed domestically at the Sudan Currency Printing Press, a facility established with support from the German firm Giesecke & Devrient. Relatively modest security specification for a note still in active circulation through 2017.
