Cyprus gained its own central bank and currency in 1963, following independence from Britain in 1960 — the transition from the Cyprus Pound issued under colonial arrangements to notes bearing the Central Bank's name was gradual, and this series bridges that institutional shift. Bradbury Wilkinson, then based in New Malden, handled much of the Commonwealth's security printing during this period and brought consistent intaglio quality to the work.

The P#44 series ran across a decade-long span, meaning later issues overlap with the catastrophic events of 1974 — the Greek-backed coup and subsequent Turkish military intervention that partitioned the island. Notes from the tail end of this series circulated through that rupture.
