The date '1918' is inscribed in the upper field above the shield, flanked by small decorative stops. The inscription 'KRIEGS GELD' (war money) is arranged in two words along the lower-left and lower-right flanks of the shield respectively, reading across the field. The composition is flat and deeply struck, in keeping with the austere aesthetic of First World War German notgeld. |
