Göppingen's Oberamt issued this zinc notgeld piece in 1918 as the German imperial war economy stripped copper and nickel from civilian coinage entirely. District-level authorities across Württemberg scrambled to fill the small-denomination gap themselves, producing locally sanctioned substitutes that varied wildly in material quality and striking consistency. Zinc was the unsentimental default — abundant, workable, and considered expendable.

The Funck reference places this among the better-documented Württemberg district issues, but survival in undamaged condition is complicated by zinc's notorious susceptibility to oxidation and post-strike corrosion.
