| 裏面の説明 | Large numeral '5' occupies the central field, enclosed within a raised rope or cable border forming a circular cartouche. The legend KLEINGELDERSATZMARKE curves around the upper periphery between the rope border and the outer beaded rim. Three six-pointed stars are evenly spaced along the lower arc between the rope border and the beaded rim, serving as decorative separators. The overall design is simple and utilitarian, consistent with the emergency coinage (Notgeld) character of the issue. |

Coburg issued its own emergency coinage in 1917 as the Imperial German war economy systematically stripped copper and nickel from civilian circulation for munitions production. These municipal Notgeld pieces were authorized locally rather than centrally, which accounts for the variation in fabric and weight tolerances seen across surviving examples. Coburg itself was still the capital of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha at this point — the duchy wouldn't be dissolved until the revolution of November 1918.
