| Beschrijving keerzijde | Salmon-pink reverse printed in dark brown on plain paper, centred on a large oval vignette showing a medieval tower and landscape scene overlaid with a circular seal bearing the eagle of the Prussian Landrat and the legend 'KREIS CALBE' around its circumference. The word 'Gutschein' in Gothic script heads the design, the serial number in large bold numerals occupies the centre, and a validity clause in Gothic type states that the note expires one month after announcement in the Calbeschen Kreisblatt; the denomination '5' appears at each corner. |

Calbe an der Saale is a small town in Saxony-Anhalt, and like hundreds of German municipalities in 1920, its district committee was forced into the notgeld business by a shortage of small-denomination coinage that the Reichsbank simply could not resolve fast enough. The postwar economy had drained coins from circulation through hoarding, melting, and the general collapse of public confidence in the monetary system.
The Grabow catalogue designation places this firmly in the local emergency issues rather than the collectible "serienscheine" printed for the philatelic trade — a meaningful distinction when assessing whether a note actually passed through hands in commerce.
