| Opis awersu | Laureate and draped bust of Liberty facing left, her hair arranged in flowing curls bound with a wreath of laurel. The legend LIBERTAD arcs along the upper periphery, while CINCO PESOS · 0.900 · C.B. curves along the lower periphery, all within a beaded inner border. The initials C.B. at the lower right refer to engraver Carlos Buitrago. The design is rendered in a classical allegorical style consistent with late 19th-century Latin American coinage. |

Guatemala's 1894 coinage program coincided with the Liberal Reform administration of José María Reina Barrios, whose government was aggressively modernizing the national monetary system following decades of instability. Pattern and trial pieces from this period were produced in white metal as a standard proofing step before committing to precious metal dies, allowing engravers and mint authorities to verify reverse detail and alignment without the cost of silver or gold blanks.
KM# Pn10 is one of very few documented trial survivals from this specific issue.
