Obverse description The current Mexican national arms occupies the central field, depicting the heraldic eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus and devouring a serpent, encircled by a wreath of oak and laurel branches tied at the base. Surrounding the central device, ten historical renditions of the Mexican coat of arms are arranged in a ring, illustrating the evolution of the national symbol through successive constitutional periods. The circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS runs along the upper portion of the inner border. The design is struck in proof finish, with deeply mirrored fields contrasting against frosted relief elements.
