| 裏面の説明 | A three-quarter facing bust of Mariano Matamoros, the Mexican independence hero and Roman Catholic priest, is struck in high relief within the aluminium bronze centre, his name inscribed in a curved legend below the effigy. The denomination '$5' appears to the left of the bust and the mint mark 'Mo' with the date '2008' to the right. The stainless steel ring carries the commemorative legend 'BICENTENARIO DE LA INDEPENDENCIA' along the upper arc, with 'MÉXICO 2010' prominently displayed along the lower arc, marking the bicentennial of Mexican independence. |

Part of Mexico's long-running "Personajes" bimetallic circulation series, this issue honors José Mariano Matamoros Guridi, a Catholic priest who became one of the most effective military commanders of the independence movement. After joining Morelos in 1811, he rose to the rank of Mariscal de Campo before his capture at Puruarán in January 1814. He was defrocked, shot, and beheaded — his head displayed publicly in Valladolid, the same treatment the royalists had given Hidalgo three years earlier.
