The Homer Lee Bank Note Company of New York was a mid-tier security printer that competed for Latin American contracts during the 1880s, undercutting the dominant American Bank Note Company on price. Colombian provincial and national banks placed several orders with them during this period, and the dual peso/dollar denomination reflects the practical realities of Colombia's Caribbean and Pacific trade circuits, where U.S. dollar-denominated transactions were common enough to warrant bilingual face values.
