Obverse description Blue-grey intaglio print on white cotton paper. The centre vignette presents a portrait of George Washington in an oval frame, flanked by elaborate guilloche scrollwork and large numeral '5' counters at left and right. The bilingual text reads in Spanish at left and English at right, both promising payment to the bearer on demand in gold or silver, with the denominations 'CINCO PESOS' and 'FIVE DOLLARS' printed in bold letterpress below the portrait. The arch inscription 'EL BANCO DE LA REPÚBLICA BOGOTÁ' and 'ESTADOS UNIDOS DE COLOMBIA' appear across the upper portion, with manuscript date spaces for issuing city and year of the 1880s.
