| Reverse description | The large numeral '5' is prominently displayed in the upper central field, with the denomination legend PESOS inscribed beneath it in bold relief. The central device is framed by two symmetrical laurel branches rising from a tied ribbon bow at the base, forming an open wreath. The coin's beaded border runs along the entire circumference, lending a refined finish to the design. |

| Additional information |
Colombia's Banco de la República introduced this small-denomination aluminium bronze piece during a period when the country's monetary system was under sustained pressure from inflation running well above 20% annually. The 5 peso denomination had effectively lost most of its purchasing power by the time this series ended in 1993, and the coin was rendered obsolete by the currency reforms that followed — Colombia redenominated in 1993, replacing the old peso with a new structure that rendered sub-100 denominations essentially pointless for circulation.
