Obverse description Central square hole flanked by the four-character Sino-Korean legend 常平通寶 (Sangpyeong Tongbo), reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left in the traditional manner. The characters 常 (top) and 平 (bottom) appear on the vertical axis, while 通 (right) and 寶 (left) appear on the horizontal axis, all rendered in regular script within a plain circular field. The legend identifies the coin as currency of the Joseon Dynasty's Sangpyeongcheong (Office of Ever-Normal Exchange). No rim ornamentation is present beyond a simple raised border.
