Obverse description Central field bears the large Arabic numeral '٥' (5) as the denomination, flanked on either side by the dual dating: the Hijri year (١٣٧٧) to the right and the Gregorian year (١٩٥٨) to the left. The Arabic legend 'جمهورية مصر' (Republic of Egypt) arcs along the upper portion of the field, while the denomination legend 'مليمات' (Milliemes) appears below the numeral. The coin is bordered by a fine reeded rim with a beaded inner circle.

Reverse description A bold, high-relief left-facing bust of the Great Sphinx of Giza occupies the majority of the reverse field, rendered in a stylized yet detailed manner with the nemes headdress and facial features clearly defined. The Sphinx's chest and forelegs are visible in the lower portion of the design, lending a three-quarter perspective. A small Arabic numeral mintmark appears in the lower exergue area beneath the Sphinx. The design is framed by a plain field with a beaded inner border and reeded outer rim.
