The denomination honors the Detlev von Liliencron Gesellschaft — a literary society named after the North German poet and Schleswig-Holstein native Detlev von Liliencron, who died in Alt-Rahlstedt in 1909 and is buried there. Civic pride and cultural commemoration were not unusual motivations for Notgeld design choices, but anchoring a five-mark note to a specific local literary society is distinctly particular. O. Thämer handled both design and printing — a small local operation rather than one of the major Notgeld printers.
