| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse displays the national emblem of the Republic of Azerbaijan prominently in the central field, rendered in high relief. The emblem features an eight-pointed star enclosing a flame motif at its center, set upon a shield, with a wreath of oak leaves and wheat ears issuing from below. The legend AZƏRBAYCAN RESPUBLİKASI arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 5 MANAT appears in the lower field. The design is executed in a polished proof finish with frosted relief elements contrasting against the mirror field. |

Shusha, known as the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, was occupied by Armenian forces during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War in May 1992. Its recapture by Azerbaijani forces on November 8, 2020 — after 28 years — was treated as the decisive symbolic moment of the Second Karabakh War. This coin was issued the following year specifically to mark that event, part of a broader commemorative program tied to the conflict's outcome.
The Central Bank declared Shusha a "cultural capital" of Azerbaijan by presidential decree in May 2021, directly preceding this issue.
