Aanvullende informatie

The Central Bank of Malta was established in 1968, taking over monetary functions from the Currency Board that had managed the Maltese pound under British colonial oversight. The 1998 silver issues appeared during Malta's extended negotiations for European Union accession — a process that would eventually see the Maltese lira permanently fixed against the euro in 2007 and withdrawn from circulation entirely in 2008, ending over three decades of the currency's existence.
