Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Victor Emmanuel II facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed wavy hair and a full beard characteristic of the king's early reign portraits. The truncation of the neck is clean and unadorned, with the engraver's signature FERRARIS inscribed below. The circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading VICTORIVS EMMANUEL II D.G. REX SARD. CYP. ET HIER., denoting his titles as King of Sardinia, Cyprus and Jerusalem. The date appears in the lower exergual area beneath the bust, and the entire design is framed by a toothed inner border.
