| Obverse description | The face is printed in black intaglio on a light blue and grey guilloche underprint with repeated legends CINQUE LIRE and BANCA NAZIONALE NEL REGNO D'ITALIA. At upper center, the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Italy appears in red within a countersign cartouche flanked by the bank name. Four portrait medallions frame the central text field: upper left bears a bust of Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour facing right; upper right bears a bust of Cristoforo Colombo facing left; lower left and lower right each carry a bust of Italia Turrita facing right and left respectively.
