| Obverse description | The face is printed in black intaglio on a light blue and grey guilloche underprint with repeated legends CINQUE LIRE and BANCA NAZIONALE NEL REGNO D'ITALIA. At upper center, the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Italy appears in red within a countersign cartouche flanked by the bank name. Four portrait medallions frame the central text field: upper left bears a bust of Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour facing right; upper right bears a bust of Cristoforo Colombo facing left; lower left and lower right each carry a bust of Italia Turrita facing right and left respectively. At bottom center, three small circular vignettes are united by a decorated cartouche bearing the bank name and denomination 5 CINQUE LIRE; series letters and series numbers appear at upper and lower corners, with serial numbers printed in red at center left and center right. |

| Reverse description | The back is entirely printed in black intaglio on an uncoloured ground, its full surface covered with a repeating pattern of the denomination 5 CINQUE LIRE interspersed with small stars each containing the numeral 5. At center, a large circular medallion carries a bust of Italia Turrita surmounted by a star; the medallion frame incorporates four subsidiary circles, each ornamented with a star and the numeral 5, enclosing the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Italy impaled with those of Turin, Florence, Venice, and Sicily. Corner cartouches bear stars and the repeated legend 5 CINQUE. The creation date and anti-counterfeiting legal text, set vertically into and around the word LIRE, appear at center left and center right. |
