Romania's postwar coinage reform was slow and politically fraught — Ferdinand I had been king since 1914, but a unified national coinage reflecting the expanded Romanian state after 1918 took years to materialize. This 1922 copper-nickel pattern was part of that exploratory process, testing compositions and designs before the eventual circulating issues were finalized. Pattern strikes of this type were produced in very small numbers, intended for official review rather than distribution.
KM#Pn193 is among several competing pattern submissions from this period, making die-specific attribution sometimes difficult without reference to major collections.
