The king wears a jewelled crown and holds in his raised left hand a gilt balance of scales, symbolising justice, while his right hand bears an unfurled scroll inscribed with text in Asomtavruli script. In the upper left field, a two-line Asomtavruli legend reads 'გიორგი ბრჭყინვალე' above the regnal dates '1299–1346' rendered in Arabic numerals. The reverse field is scattered with small dove devices, and a beaded border encircles the entire composition. |

George V ruled the Kingdom of Georgia from 1318 until his death in 1346, earning the epithet "the Brilliant" — მეფეთა-მეფე, "king of kings" — for reversing two centuries of Mongol dominance and briefly restoring Georgian sovereignty over a territory approaching the medieval kingdom's former extent. His reign saw Tbilisi recaptured in 1327 and a cultural revival that made his court one of the most active in the Caucasus. The National Bank of Georgia has issued several collector series drawing on medieval royal figures, and George V appears among the most politically resonant choices given ongoing national identity discourse.
