Murad V ruled for just 93 days in 1876 before being deposed on grounds of mental incapacity — the shortest reign in Ottoman history to produce a coinage. His removal was engineered largely by Midhat Pasha, the architect of the first Ottoman constitution, who then placed Abdülhamid II on the throne expecting a more pliable sultan. He was wrong on that count.
KM#711 is consequently one of the scarcer Ottoman silver types by reign, with production cut off before any meaningful quantity entered circulation.
