By 1975, the 5 Kuruş had so little purchasing power that the cost of producing it in any denser alloy was difficult to justify — aluminium was the only sensible answer. The KM#890a designation distinguishes this alloy variant from earlier strikes of the same type, a distinction that catches casual collectors off guard.
