Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of King Olav V occupying the central field, with the engraver's initials 'ØH' positioned behind the truncation. A continuous circular legend surrounds the effigy, separated from the coin's edge by a solid raised rim ring. The design is executed in a restrained, classical style characteristic of mid-twentieth-century Scandinavian medallic art.

Additional information

Pattern strikes from the Royal Norwegian Mint in 1963 were part of an extended internal evaluation period before Norway's 5 krone coinage was finally standardized. Larsen P49.1 sits in a small cluster of copper-nickel trials produced that year, most of which never left official hands. The distinction between pattern and proof here matters: these were working tests, not presentation pieces.
