The K.K. Internierungsstation at Steinklamm was one of Austria-Hungary's internal civilian internment camps during the First World War — facilities used to detain subjects deemed politically unreliable, largely Ruthenians, Serbs, and other Slavic populations suspected of pro-Russian or pro-Serbian sympathies. Camp scrip of this type was issued to replace regular currency within the wire, preventing detainees from accumulating money usable beyond the perimeter.
Steinklamm camp notes are among the rarer Austrian internment issues. Documentary records for the camp are fragmentary, and surviving scrip turns up infrequently enough that establishing full denomination series remains difficult.
