Reverse description A princely coronet surmounts a heraldic composition of three conjoined shields of arms arranged in a trefoil formation, representing the territories of Löwenstein, Wertheim, and Rochefort. The numeral 5, denoting the face value in Kreuzer, appears in a recessed frame at the base of the shield grouping. The partial date is split across the lower field, flanked by the mintmaster's initials W.E., with the fineness standard inscription 240 EINE FEINE MARCK running along the upper legend and IUSTIRT indicating the coin's assay certification.

Additional information

Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort was one of the more obscure subdivisions of the Holy Roman Empire — a Franconian county whose coinage rights were exercised only sporadically and whose issues consequently appear in small quantities. Charles Thomas ruled from 1735 until his death in 1789, and this brief minting window of 1767–69 likely corresponds to a specific fiscal need rather than any sustained monetary program. The county had no permanent mint of its own and contracted work out, which accounts for the die inconsistencies Wibel documents across the type.
