Ulm remained a Free Imperial City until Napoleon dissolved the Holy Roman Empire's free city structure in 1802, handing it to Bavaria — then to Württemberg in 1810. This 1767 issue predates that dissolution by 35 years, struck when the city still exercised its independent minting rights under imperial authority. The Konventionskreuzer denomination reflects the 1753 Munich Convention, which standardized coinage across much of the German-speaking world by fixing the silver content of subsidiary coinage relative to the Conventionsthaler.
