Obverse description Central field displays the Slovak state coat of arms — a shield bearing a double-barred patriarchal cross rising from three mountain peaks — flanked symmetrically on either side by wheat sheaves curving upward from the base. The denomination numeral '5' appears prominently in the upper right, with the legend arcing around the upper periphery. The date 1939 is inscribed in the lower exergue beneath the shield.

Additional information

Slovakia's first independent coinage program launched in 1939 following the Slovak State's proclamation in March of that year, and trial strikes like this piece were part of the technical and design approval process before production dies were finalized. The .987 fine silver specification is unusually pure for a circulating type — commercial issues in the series were eventually struck to a lower standard.

Surviving approved trial strikes from this transitional moment are genuinely scarce; most were retained by mint officials or destroyed after evaluation.
