Khengarji III ruled Kutch from 1876 under a cloud of British oversight — the state had been under a political agent since 1819, and every significant administrative decision required Residency approval. The 5 Kori was the principal silver denomination of the Kutch monetary system, and issues struck under Victoria's name reflect the formal subordination of princely coinage to imperial authority following the 1858 transfer of power from the East India Company to the Crown.
