| 裏面の説明 | The reverse presents an ornate folk-art composition incorporating guelder rose branches, stylized plants, and an embroidered towel (rushnyk) as primary decorative elements. At the center, the small National Emblem of Ukraine (tryzub) is displayed, flanked below by Hetman symbols of authority and a Cossack sabre. To the left and right, conventionalized flowers and birds frame the Cyrillic inscriptions УКРАЇНА and 5 ГРИВЕНЬ, while the issue year 2005 appears in the upper field. The mint logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine Banknote Printing and Minting Works is also present in the design. |

Issued to mark the Feast of the Intercession of the Mother of God — Pokrova — a holiday with particular resonance in Ukrainian national identity given its deep association with the Zaporozhian Cossacks, who adopted the feast as their patronal celebration. The connection between Pokrova and Cossack military tradition dates to at least the seventeenth century and remained culturally potent enough that Soviet authorities never fully suppressed the observance in Ukraine.
