Hinterbrühl is a small market town in Lower Austria best known as the site of the Seegrotte, a flooded gypsum mine that later served as a Heinkel He 162 jet aircraft assembly facility under Nazi forced labor. This note has nothing to do with any of that — it predates the Second World War entirely and belongs to the vast wave of Austrian municipal emergency currency, Notgeld, issued after the First World War when small-denomination coinage vanished from circulation almost entirely.

Three signatories authenticate the note: the Bürgermeister, his deputy, and the finance officer — unusually complete for a village issue of this denomination.
