Obverse description The obverse is set within an elaborate letterpress border of interlocking guilloche scrollwork, with the denomination numeral '5' repeated in the four corners. The central text panel, printed in Dutch, bears the issuer's name 'DE SURINAAMSCHE BANK' at the top, followed by the payable clause 'te Paramaribo betaalt aan toonder' and the denomination 'Vijf Gulden' in ornate Gothic script, with a note of exchange hours below. Two manuscript signatures appear at the lower left and right, identified by the titles 'Directeur' and 'Directeur-Voorzitter', with a printed date and the printer's imprint 'Uitgev. bij Joh. Enschedé & Zonen' at the foot.

Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a large central guilloche rosette in muted brown and ochre tones, flanked symmetrically on either side by ornate lathe-work vignettes suggestive of mill or windmill motifs, all set against a radiating sunburst underprint of fine engine-turned lines. The serial number appears three times in Cyrillic-style 'No' notation, positioned at the upper left, upper right, and bottom centre of the design.
