| Obverse description | The obverse is set within an elaborate letterpress border of interlocking guilloche scrollwork, with the denomination numeral '5' repeated in the four corners. The central text panel, printed in Dutch, bears the issuer's name 'DE SURINAAMSCHE BANK' at the top, followed by the payable clause 'te Paramaribo betaalt aan toonder' and the denomination 'Vijf Gulden' in ornate Gothic script, with a note of exchange hours below. Two manuscript signatures appear at the lower left and right, identified by the titles 'Directeur' and 'Directeur-Voorzitter', with a printed date and the printer's imprint 'Uitgev. bij Joh.
