| 正面描述 | Vertically oriented note printed in blue ink on plain paper stock, with Chinese text arranged in columnar format reading right to left within a rectangular inner border decorated with floral and foliate ornamental motifs. The central text field carries the issuing authority, denomination, and date of issue in formal script, while a red seal impression occupies the upper left corner. The date and serial number are placed along the left margin outside the inner border, and the overall composition follows the traditional Chinese banknote letterpress format of the late Qing period. |

The Tainan Official Bank Note General Bureau existed for a matter of weeks. It was established by officials of the short-lived Taiwan Republic — the "Republic of Formosa" declared in May 1895 following the Qing cession of Taiwan to Japan under the Treaty of Shimonoseki — as a desperate attempt to fund military resistance against the incoming Japanese forces. Japanese troops entered Tainan in October 1895, effectively ending the republic after roughly five months.
Notes of this issue are among the earliest paper currency produced on Taiwanese soil under a locally constituted authority. Circulation was negligible; the issuing institution collapsed before any meaningful distribution could occur.
