| 裏面の説明 | The reverse presents a boldly stylised, cubist-inspired depiction of a male figure rendered in an abstract, faceted geometric relief, with the right hand prominently raised in the traditional Swiss oath gesture. The design, executed in a modernist sculptural style, evokes the collective oath sworn at the Covenant of Stans in 1481. The inscription 'STANS' appears along the left field, with the historical date '1481' inscribed vertically along the right field, commemorating the 500th anniversary of the treaty. |

The Treaty of Stans (1481) resolved a genuine crisis — the Swiss Confederation was on the verge of collapse over disputes between urban and rural cantons, and it was the hermit Nicholas of Flüe, mediating from his cell at Ranft without attending in person, whose intervention produced the compromise that held the federation together. The commemorative issue marking the treaty's 500th anniversary was one of several Swiss proof and circulation strikes released through the early 1980s honoring foundational moments in confederate history.
