Obverse description Bare bust of King Louis XVIII facing left, with naturalistically rendered wavy hair tied in a queue, truncation signed MICHAUT F. The encircling legend reads LOUIS XVIII ROI DE FRANCE, separated by a period, set within a fine dentilated border. The portrait is executed in a neoclassical style, presenting the king in an unadorned, unheroic manner characteristic of the Restoration period. A horse-head privy mark appears on certain issues below the bust truncation.

Reverse description Crowned shield of France bearing three fleurs-de-lis arranged two over one, flanked symmetrically by two olive branches tied at the base with a ribbon, their stems crossing at the lower centre. The denomination 5 F appears divided across the field, with '5' to the left and 'F' to the right of the shield. The four-digit date and mint mark are displayed in the exergue below the olive branches, within a dentilated border. The overall composition is bold and heraldic, typical of Restoration-era French coinage.
