Obverse description Full figure of a medieval Swiss warrior striding to the right, depicted in dynamic posture with his right arm raised to swing a sling; a Swiss cross is displayed prominently on his surcoat at the chest. The engraver's signature REMO ROSSI appears at lower left in the field. The curved legend CONFOEDERATIO HELVETICA arcs along the upper periphery in incuse Latin letters, framing the heroic figure against a plain, unadorned field.

Reverse description A large, boldly rendered Swiss federal cross occupies the centre of the field, its equal arms forming the dominant design element against a plain background. The denomination 5 FR. is inscribed at the top of the field, flanked on the left by the commemorative legend LAUPEN and on the right by the Roman numeral date MCCCXXXIX, referencing the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Laupen in 1339. The Gregorian year 1939 appears in the exergue below the cross, with the Bern mint mark B incused immediately beneath it.
