Reverse description Central motif depicts two crossed flags — the French Tricolore bearing the monogram 'RF' (République Française) and the flag of Anjouan — with a crescent and stars above their crossing point, symbolising the French protectorate over the Sultanate of Anjouan. The crossed flags are framed by an elegant wreath of palm and laurel branches tied with a ribbon at the base. A four-line Arabic inscription fills the upper and lower fields, reading 'Under the protection of the glorious State of France, the State of Anjouan, may God preserve it.' The whole is encircled by a beaded border.
