The Democratic Republic of Congo has issued a substantial number of novelty collector pieces under its central bank's authority since the late 1990s, most produced by European private mints with no intention of circulation. This "Concorde" issue appeared in 2003, the same year the aircraft made its final commercial flights — Air France and British Airways both retired the type in October of that year after the 2000 Gonesse crash and post-9/11 passenger losses made continued operation economically indefensible.

KM# 76 is a straightforward commemorative struck for the collector market, almost certainly by or through Numiscollect or a comparable intermediary.
