Obverse description Central field bears a three-line Arabic inscription giving the name of the Bey Ahmad II and the denomination פיו (five francs), flanked on either side by a stylised olive branch. The Hijri date 1353 appears in Eastern Arabic-Indic numerals along the lower arc. The whole is enclosed within an ornate geometric and foliate cartouche with a dentilated outer border, reflecting the arabesque decorative tradition of the Husainid coinage of Tunisia.
