Luxembourg's liberation from German occupation in September 1944 created an immediate demand for new currency before any domestic printing infrastructure could be organized. The American Bank Note Company in New York produced this note as part of an emergency issue — the same practical logic that drove several Western European governments-in-exile to contract American and British printers during and immediately after the war.
The series date range of 1944–1953 reflects a long run from a single plate design, a sign of how slowly Luxembourg rebuilt its currency infrastructure in the postwar years.
