Aruba's florin coinage is issued by the Centrale Bank van Aruba, which has operated independently since the island's separation from the Netherlands Antilles in 1986 — a political status known as Status Aparte that gave Aruba its own currency but kept it within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Willem-Alexander's effigy replaced that of his mother Beatrix following her abdication in April 2013, making 2014 the first full year of his reign to appear on Aruban coinage.
