Iraq's 1982 coinage was struck during the second year of the Iran-Iraq War, a conflict that would drain the country's economy for nearly a decade. The "Non-Magnetic" designation distinguishes this piece from the earlier copper-clad steel KM#159 — the alloy change was a quiet production decision, not a policy announcement, and the two types circulated simultaneously without public differentiation.
