Obverse description Central field bears four large Chinese ideograms arranged in a cruciform reading pattern (top to bottom, right to left), flanked by Manchu script characters at centre. The entire composition is encircled by an outer ring of additional Chinese ideograms forming the mint, reign title, and denomination inscriptions. The legends collectively identify the issuing authority as the Peking Mint, the reign period as Guangxu, the cyclical year Gengzi (1900), and the weight denomination of 3.6 Candareens. The design is executed in high relief on a flat, unadorned field typical of pattern coinage of the period.

Reverse description A finely detailed Chinese imperial five-clawed dragon is depicted in high relief at centre, its sinuous body coiling dynamically across the field with scales rendered in careful detail. A flaming pearl appears beneath the dragon's head at the centre of the design. The dragon is surrounded by stylised cloud scrolls that fill the field. The Latin legend 'PEKING' arcs across the upper periphery, while '3.6 CANDAREENS' curves along the lower periphery, both separated from the central device by a beaded inner border. The outer rim is defined by the coin's reeded edge, consistent with the milled pattern coinage standard of the Peking Mint.
