| 背面描述 | Full-length figure of legendary Dutch speed skater Jaap Eden depicted in mid-stride, rendered in a bold graphic style against a dynamic field of intersecting diagonal lines suggesting the ice and the speed of skating. The denomination '€5' appears prominently in the upper portion of the field above the skater. The subject's name 'jaap eden' is inscribed in stylized lowercase lettering across the mid-field, split to either side of the central figure. |

Jaap Eden was arguably the greatest Dutch speed skater of the nineteenth century — world champion in both speed skating and cycling in the same year, 1896, a combination unlikely to be repeated. The rink bearing his name in Amsterdam opened in 1961 and remains the country's principal indoor speed skating venue. This coin was issued as part of the Netherlands' ongoing commemorative five-euro circulation series, struck in silver-plated copper rather than silver proper, making it legally spendable but practically collected rather than spent.
